Description

If you love to run and cycle but dread the swimming portion of a triathlon, then HALE-uva Duathlon II is the event for you.

On April 23rd 2016, you will start with a 5K run, then a 21 mile bike ride, and finally another 5K run. With so many running and cycling event in West Texas, this is the second in Plainview’s history that combines both into one fun and challenging event.

RULES AND SAFETY: As we are concerned for the safety of our participates, all riders must wear approved helmets and observe all traffic laws and the law enforcement officers supporting our event.

The Crisis Center of the Plains (CCP) will be receiving all the proceeds from the HALE-uva Duathlon event. We thought it was every important that participants get some information about this very worthy organization:

The mission of the Crisis Center of the Plains is to reduce the effects of physical, psychological and sexual abuse among victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, through crisis intervention, public education, increased cooperation between agencies and or...ganizations, support
groups, and advocacy.

The Crisis Center of the Plains provides the following programs and service in Hale, Swisher, Briscoe, Hall, Castro, Floyd, and Motley Counties in which Victim Services are FREE and their 24 hour phone number is (806) 293-7273:

• Shelter/Safe house
• Crisis Counseling and Follow-Up Contact
• Group Treatment/Support
• Safety Planning for all clients including children
• Information and Referral (in person and Telephone)
• Justice Support/Advocacy
• Assistance in Filing Compensation Claims
• Assistance in Filing Protective Orders
• Life Skills Classes
• Assistance with Immigration Naturalization Services
• 24 hour staffed hotline for Crisis Intervention
• Transportation to schools, legal resources, medical and emergency
room when needed.
• Battering Intervention Prevention Program
• CHANGES group for women who are abusive (New Program)
• Training is available in domestic violence and sexual assault to all law
enforcement, district attorneys, judges, probation and parole
departments as well as area health and medical agencies.
• Education and prevention presentations to area schools and civic
organizations.
• Supervised Visits
• They have been instrumental in implementing a Sexual Assault Nurse
Examiner (SANE) program to serve Hale and the surrounding
counties, and are excited that additional nurses have been trained.
• Small Food Pantry for Non-Resident Clients
• Intern Program with Wayland Baptist University
• Collaboration with local organizations
• Broadway Treasures Thrift Store for client assistance

The Plainview Fitness Event group has also helped with other location events such as the FIT/Plainview 5K, Fall Festival 5K, YMCA Mini Triathlon, YMCA Turkey Trot, Crime Stoppers Color Run & Freedom 5K Runs, and Cotton Patch Tour de Freedom.
